This is a list of all the enemies faced throught Turok: Dinosaur Hunter to Turok: Evolution.

Contents

[edit] Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

[edit] Insectoid Enemies

Dragonfly, giant: A giant green dragonfly roughly five feet long.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Use the knife or simply run from them.

Beetle, giant: A black beetle the size of a dog.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Duck and slash with the knife.

Subterranean: Huge worm-like creatures with snapping jaws.

  • Weapons: Acid-spit, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Subterranean are very durable, taking many hits to kill. The quickest way to kill them is using the shotgun to pump explosive shells into them.

[edit] Human Enemies

Poachers: As there name suggests, these are a band of ruthless animal poachers presumably looking for dinosaurs whom are also a danger to Turok. The poachers resemble armor-less men wearing animal skins or simple clothing.

  • Weapons: Poachers attack Turok using knives, bows, pistols, rifles and occasionally grenades.
  • Countermeasures: Some of the weakest enemies in the game, a strike of the knife or single shot of the pistol is enough to kill any poacher.

Campaigner's Soldiers: These are the Campaigner's grunts. They appear as basic soldiers in camouflage or khaki clothing and occasionally armor.

  • Weapons: The Campaigner's soldiers attack with pistols, shotguns or machetes.
  • Countermeasures: Soldiers have a tendency to stay in one place and continuously fire at Turok. Being fairly weak, the best weapon to use is the pistol.

Campaigner's Guards: The elite of the Campaigner's army, these are large men bearing huge amounts of armor.

  • Weapons: The Campaigner's guards are equipped with large plasma rifles.
  • Countermeasures: Tough to pierce their armor, the automatic shotgun or assault rifle tends to work the best on these brutes.

Ancient Warriors: The true human inhabitants of the lost land, the ancient warriors appear as primitive native people of whom are covered in full body paint to resemble skeletons.

  • Weapons: Ancient warriors attack with bone clubs for melee or blowpipes from a distance.
  • Countermeasures: The assault rifle or bow are the most effective weapons to use on Ancient warriors. Try to take out the blow pipe wielders first as they can deal a lot of damage from a distance.

Ancient Warrior Witch Doctor: Also known as 'Demons' the witch doctors look similar to the Ancient warrior but wear a skull mask adorned with two goat horns.

  • Weapons: Spear, projectile magic.
  • Countermeasures: Powerful from close or long range, the best move to use is to strafe back and forth whilst using the assault rifle.

Ancient Warrior High Priest: The most powerful of the ancient warriors. They look almost the same as the witch doctors although they possess a mace like magic wand which they use to cast spells.

  • Weapons: Magic spells, projectile magic.
  • Countermeasures: They use various spells to attack Turok, all of which deal a lot of damage. Strafe to avoid being hit and attack with the grenade launcher.

[edit] Saurian Enemies

Raptor: Medium sized and fast dinosaurs. Basic theropod dinosaur design; two legged, long tailed, large head equipped with powerful jaws and sharp teeth.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw
  • Countermeasures: The shotgun is the best weapon for hunting raptors, and takes them down with ease.

Leaper: A small, four legged reptile that leaps around at a fast pace, hence the name. Somewhat resembles a lizard with long thin legs for jumping, like a frog.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Leapers come in different sizes and strengths, however, the best technique for all of them is to use the Tek Bow from a distance.

Dimetrodon: A large prehistoric reptile resembling a Komodo dragon with a row of tall spines down its back.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: A tough animal to kill, the grenade launcher or explosive shells handle it best.

Bio-Mechanically Enhanced Raptor: A bio-mechanically enhanced version of the raptor. In appearance it resembles the raptor only gray in color and partially fused with a machine. One of its arms has been replaced with a plasma weapon.

  • Weapons: Plasma rifle, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Like its biological relatives, the enhanced raptor is best taken out with the shotgun or automatic shotgun. However, explosive shells are recommended for these more powerful dinosaurs.

Bio-Mechanically Enhanced Dimetrodon: A dimetrodon with twin machine guns strapped to its back.

  • Weapons: Machine guns, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Stay out of its face to avoid being shot or bitten and fire at it with the grenade launcher.

Triceratops Rider: An enormous quadrupedal dinosaur with its famous three horned head. The Campaigner's soldiers use these monsters as mounts, attaching a sophisticated war saddle to its back; equipped with machine guns and a rocket launcher.

  • Weapons: Mini gun, rocket launcher, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Use only heavy weapons such as the grenade or rocket launcher. Nothing else will suffice. Keep behind it as much as possible to avoid its full barrage.

[edit] Mutant Enemies

Man-eating Plant: A large flower-like plant that shoots poisonous barbs at Turok and lashes with its vines.

  • Weapons: Poison barbs, tooth and claw and err.. vine.
  • Countermeasures: The plat has a tendency to block Turok's bullets so use the grenade launcher.

Sewer Crab: A large, mutant crab which lives around the sewers of the Campaigner's Fortress.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Use the grenade launcher as they are strong but slow. Be wary of them surfacing behind you.

Pur-Linn: Huge, powerful creatures resembling scaly gorillas. There are two of three different types.

  • Weapons: Plasma rifle, shock-waves, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Keep your distance and use Tek Arrows.

Alien: Aliens that look like five foot humanoids with green skin and four arms. They wear gas masks over they're faces, jet-packs attacked to their backs and wield a gun in two of the four arms.

  • Weapons: Alien gun.
  • Countermeasures: Will usually run at you and fire his alien guns. If in a wide, open space, aliens may utilize their jet-packs to shoot into the air and come down behind you. Most weapons can kill aliens fairly easily except the pistol and knife. The bow is not recommended either because of its slow rate of fire.

[edit] Cyborg Enemies

Cyborg Grunt: Somewhat humanoid robots.

  • Weapons: Baton.
  • Countermeasures: Tek Arrows.

Cyborg Guard: Giant cyborgs resembling robotic Pur-Linn.

  • Weapons: Plasma Rifle
  • Countermeasures: Strafe and shoot with the Plasma Rifle for best results.

Cyborg Master: Enormous red and yellow robots.

  • Weapons: Axe, mini gun, rocket launcher
  • Countermeasures: The rocket launcher is all that will effect these powerful robots.

[edit] Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

[edit] Insectoid Enemies

Swamp Wasp: Resembles an enormous hornet the size of a Labrador. These insects reside in the Death Marshes.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Fodder. Jump and slash them with the war blade.

Spider, Giant: A colorful and poisonous looking spider roughly a foot across. They live in confined spaces.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Fodder. Duck and use the war blade or fire away with the pistol.

Spider Queen, Giant: An enormous spider the size of a person. Living in caves, they drop from the ceiling on long webs to attack Turok. They also have the ability to spit a noxious gas that makes them even more deadly.

  • Weapons: Projectile gas, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Be sure to keep at a distance. Torch them with the flamethrower as soon as possible.

Subterranean: Huge worm-like creatures with snapping jaws. The first re-incarnation from Dinosaur Hunter. In Seeds of Evil the Subterranean has gained the ability to whip Turok with its long tongue. They are encountered underground in the Lair of the Blind ones, and at the muddy areas of Death Marshes.

  • Weapons: Acid-spit, whip tongue, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: Subterranean are very durable, taking many hits to kill. The quickest way to kill them is using the shotgun to pump explosive shells into them or to burn them with the flamethrower.

[edit] Saurian Enemies

Compsognathus: Chicken sized bipedal dinosaurs that move in packs of around five individuals.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: The weakest enemy in the game. Slash at it with the talon of war blade, don't waste ammunition.

Raptor: Medium sized and fast dinosaurs. Basic theropod dinosaur design; two legged, long tailed, large head equipped with powerful jaws and sharp teeth. Ganglier than its Turok: Dinosaur Hunter equivalent and also a different colour. Like the other creatures in Seeds of Evil, this incarnation of the Raptor can have body parts blown off including its head. It can also be blown in half.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: The shot gun once again is the best option for the raptor. However, raptors do duck and weave more than most creatures, and is therefore harder to hit.

The war blade is also effective from close range.

[edit] Dinosoids

Raptoid: A highly evolved, somewhat humanoid dinosaur. More advanced and intelligent than the Raptor although not as much as the Endtrail. Raptoids have arms and claws of which they use to swing and swipe at Turok.

  • Weapons: Tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: A weak creature, the talon or war blade disposes of them well enough. The pistol is recommended to avoid damage though.

Endtrail: Some of the most highly evolved reptilian humanoid seem in Turok 2. Resembles a man shaped alligator. In addition they have the ability to utilize a cloaking device or if damaged enough they will self destruct.

  • Weapons: War blade, plasma rifle, self destruct.
  • Countermeasures: Tough, but not too powerful, the Endtrails are best dealt with using the Mag 60, tek arrows or the shotgun.

Fireborn: Another reptilian humanoid related to the Endtrail. The appear very similar to they're alligator-like cousins, however, they possess large tusks in they're mouths and deep red scales. These creatures live in hot locations, always around lava, and usually underground.

  • Weapons: Lava throw, tooth and claw.
  • Countermeasures: As well as using they're huge claws, the Fireborns will throw lava at Turok, making them dangerous from close and long range. The best weapon to use is the tek bow which will blow them up leaving only their feet behind.

[edit] The Flesh Eaters

Sentinel: A very basic form, they attack with toothed swords and grenades. They have absolutely no body armor and are fairly easy to kill. (Alternately known as the Oblivion Spawn Grunt).

Death Guard: Noted for their bulkier builds and blue armor, these Flesh Eaters are upgrades of the basics, doing so through the "Blood of the Mother" ritual. They wield guns in the place of swords and are harder to take down. (Alternately known as the Oblivion Spawn).

Lord of the Flesh: First seen in level 2, these are the ultimate Flesh Eater upgrade. Wearing red armor with spikes on it and wielding even more powerful weapons, they are very hard opponents to kill. They are created by Death Guards performing the "Flesh of the Mother" ritual.

[edit] The Deadkin

Dead Men: Dead people. Skeletons with flesh strewen about them. Humanoid, but not human. They actually toss their own blood at you! This is very powerful. The way to get around this is to turn off the blood in the Option Menu, making them totally harmless.

Lord of the Dead: Much like the UnDead, but with glowing eyes, and they are much larger. Besides swiping at you, these god awful corpses will spew fireballs from their hands. Each fireball will take away 10 health, so STAY AWAY! The only thing going for you is that they move slow.

Sister of Despair: Just your regular flying torso with a the backbone swinging obscenely underneath... Whoever thought up this creature is a sicko...what else do you expect from Iguana? These guys..er...girls...er...things, fly around unpredictably and will follow you everywhere. These will definitely will test your marksmanship. The Magnum will puncture a hole in their little bodies...But if they're close, use the Shot Gun; it's bullets spray quite nicely.

[edit] The Pur-Linn

War Club: Think Purr-Linn with 100 pound fists They certainly aren't very intelligent, but they make up with the fact that they can flatten you like a pancake. Cliche, I know, but who cares? Just need to emphasize that...Watch out! When these guys begin to swing their mighty fist, get the Hell away and fire a few Tek Arrows their way.

Catapult: Another Purr-Linn Purr-Linn aren't exactly the brightest bulb in the box, if you catch my drift, so this guy is a genius to them! He will pick up rocks and hurl them at you. Powerful, but easy to avoid.

Gunner: Purr-Linn coated with armor, plus a huge chaingun that it can barely lift. This one will require a bit more Countermeasures to defeat...Find shelter, then watch it shoot at you until it's gun jams. Quick! Run out in front and shoot it in the face with your most lethal weapon. Otherwise it will regain control of it's gun and rip right through your flesh.

Juggernaut: Ooh! Purr-Linn meets Star Wars! They are armed with an "Ion Sword." They have glowing red eyes and gobs of armor. They tower above you. They are slow, but very powerful. Their Ion Sword is lethal against a soft body (i.e. you) so stay as far away from it as you can. Whip out your Shot Gun and aim for the cranium, this is a good way to get past it's large amount of armor. HOWEVER, it's Ion Sword can block your shots, so be careful.

[edit] The Blind Ones

Skimmers: A strange humanoid-like creature with a lot of small arms They jump around erratically, spewing acid along the way. They sure do look strange!

Guardians: Fat, chubby, white creatures. Guardians use crossbows and some can even call out Fireworms. A single Sunfire Pod will take out an entire room of them.

Sentinel: The Sentinels are armed with a blade capable of cutting you down with one swing. Judging by their waste line, they haven't had an intruder in their midst for some time. Use something powerful. like the Cerebral Bore.

Fireworms: Small worms that inhabit the deepest bowels of the Lost Land, these little creatures are summoned by the Guardians whenever they are needed. To kill it, use your War Blade as they are not much of a threat.

[edit] The Mantids

Drone: Huge green insects with dual blasters. One is certainly a threat, as each laser blast can take off about 5 health points...three or more and you've got yourself a CRITICAL situation! Use your most powerful weapons on them. BDA - Explosive Shells or Grenades, it will cause their legs, arms, and lower torso to be blown off, then it will crawl around, looking for help, then collapse as a pool of their yellow blood forms.

Mite: Small, strange looking creatures who scuttle around the ground in large numbers. They are larger than you might think, though...hahaha, get it? 'might'? They all originate from a hidden nest, and a well aimed grenade will put a stop to their hatching. The noise they make is so disgusting...use the War Blade for those close encounters.

Worker: Strange insects; they use four legs to walk and two to attack with. It's just like the regular working man. he has no intent on violence, but once he gets pissed, WATCH OUT! They like to travel in groups, get in a circle around you, and keep on slicing. The best way to take these pests out is with the Flamethrower, as even the mighty War Blade is too weak for these guys. Besides, what else will you use the Flamethrower on?

Soldier: Large, brown, roach like creatures. They have purple orbs on their shoulders and dual guns. Their main attack is just shooting you, but if you anger them they will rear back and shoot a long stream of purple plasma balls at you. This can drain your energy at a surprising rate. A pissed off Solder is the last thing you want to see.

[edit] Primagen's Bio-Bots

Bio-Bot: Humanoid creature that gets around on a large, single wheel. Has no legs, just the wheel. Up close they will scratch you with their claws, which causes very little damage. However, from afar, it will spray you in lethal amounts of blue lasers, quickly lowering your Health.

Trooper: Large, bio-mechanical creature with a squid face, purple eyes, and big guns. There are two varieties...one has a single gun, the other has twin mini- guns! Obviously, the latter can take your health down at a dramatic rate, but the former is also nothing to mess with. It has very heavy armor...use the Scorpion Missile Launcher.

Elite Trooper: Similar to a Trooper, but with more armor, yellow skin, and even larger guns. It takes about two shots (each shot is three missiles) from the Scorpion Missile Launcher (sometimes only one), so you know this guy is tough! If you don't have that then...you're screwed, basically.

Turrets: There are several different types scattered through the different levels of Turok 2. (Cannons and Mortars in level 2, lasers in 5, and mini-guns in level 6), but they are all very powerful, so you had better take them out quick.

[edit] Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion

[edit] Insectoid Enemies

Beetle: A black beetle the size of a dog. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Duck and slash with the knife or axe.

[edit] Saurian Enemies

Compys: Small green dinosaurs about half the size of a raptor with a very similar appearance. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: The weakest enemy in the game. Slash at it with the war axe or knife, don't waste ammunition.

Raptor: Medium sized and fast dinosaurs. Basic theropod dinosaur design; two legged, long tailed, large head equipped with powerful jaws and sharp teeth. The same as in Turok 2. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: The shot gun once again is the best option for the raptor. However, raptors do duck and weave more than most creatures, and is therefore harder to hit.

Fireborn: A reptilian humanoid related to the Endtrail. The appear very similar to they're alligator-like cousins, however, they possess large tusks in they're mouths and deep red scales. These creatures live in hot locations, always around lava, and usually underground. Weapons: Lava throw, tooth and claw. Countermeasures: As well as using they're huge claws, the Fireborns will throw lava at Turok, making them dangerous from close and long range. The best weapon to use is the tek bow which will blow them up leaving only their feet behind. The shotgun is also effective, however the firestorm shotgun will have no effect on these fiery demons.

[edit] Human Enemies

Military Personnel: Although these Special Service military base guards are not part of Oblivion's mutations they will kill you. As you have to penetrate deep into the military base you will have to kill the guards who patrol the base. The base is on full red alert and anything that moves is to be killed. Guards have body armor but you can cut through that with the Assault Rifle.

S.W.A.T. Cops: The S.W.A.T. cops are there to enforce martial law. They will kill you if you get to close to them. You cannot kill the cops so do not bother trying. Cops are located in the streets all through out Level 1. Avoid the cops remember your mission is to kill Oblivion.

Forsaken Warrior: These mutants look like armored road warriors. They fire automatic weapons at you and throw grenades at you. They are located in level 4 around The Canyon and The Ancient Temple. Most weapons will kill these mutants however the Shotgun is very effective.

Voodoo Priest Skeleton: In Level 4 you will encounter these skeleton mutants. They perform human sacrifices for Oblivion. They will attack you with blowpipes and swords. They guard The Temple and The Pyramid. Use the Firestorm Cannon or the Shredder to reduce them to dust. Use the strafe button to avoid the blow darts.

[edit] The Mutants

Human Zombie: These are dead zombie corpses that Oblivion has possessed and raised from the dead. These mutants will fire spawn at you but they are very slow movers. One or two pistol rounds will sort these zombies out. You will encounter them in level 1 near the breach.

Oblivion Hound: Be careful these dogs are very fast and they have a serious bite. They will spit spawn at you. Shoot them from a distance with the Pistol, Shotgun or Crossbow. You will encounter them in Level 1,

Stryder: These are hideous mutations a hybrid of a human and an octopus. The Stryder moves very fast and fires lethal spawn at you. Kill these mutations quickly and preferably from a distance with the Pistol. You will encounter them in Level 1.

Waligus: This creature is a mutation of a lizard, a frog and a human being. They are the result of a military experiment. The Waligus is a powerful enemy when it comes at you fast. It spits fiery spawn at you. It doesn't give up easily and will inflict serious damage to your health. The best way to chop them down is with the Assault Rifle. Fire at them until they drop. You can actually hear them coming by the thud they make on the ground when they are running towards you. You will encounter these mutants in Level 2 in the Military Base.

Ligatrix: A small face, plant-looking type of alien. These mutants live in Level 2 and 3. They hang on the walls and slither along the floor. Use the Shotgun to take them out. They splatter great when they are hit.

[edit] Lost Land Mutants

Lost Land Guards: These mutants actually look like Boba Fett from Star Wars. They are located around the Plane wreck in Level 3. Use the Shotgun to kill them. They have some heavy head and body armor. Use the Shotgun or the Assault Rifle to eliminate them.

Mummite: In the Lost Land in Level 3 you will encounter these giant spiky frog like mutants. They attack by banging on the ground to make you lose your balance. Then they move in to smash you to pieces with their huge fists. Use the Assault Rifle to chop them down.

Lost Land Kung - Fu Guard: These mutants live in Level 3 around the Ophisto and in The Dam area. They attack with razor sharp blades on their hands and Kung Fu kicks. Use the Firestorm cannon or the Laser Sighted Pistol to knock them out.

Infestoid: In the Dam area you will encounter these bug eyed human frog mutants. They have one arm that is a giant spawn gun and large webbed feet. Use any automatic weapon to eliminate them. They have 360 vision.

[edit] Oblivion Spawn

Oblivion Spawn Grunt: These are the famous demonic red eyed monsters of Oblivion that killed Josh. They are the Sons of Darkness. They will attack you with swords and throw grenades at you. These monsters attack in numbers and guard Oblivion's headquarters. Most weapons work well against these demons however I like the Cerebral Bore best. In overwhelming attacks by these demons its best to use the Firestorm Cannon. (Alternately known as the Sentinel)

Oblivion Spawn: This guy guards the towers in Oblivion HQ. He has heavy body armor and will fire an automatic laser rifle at you. (Alternately known as the Death Guard)

Oblivion Spawn High Priest: In the last level when you are hunting down Oblivion you will encounter these dark killer priests. They float in the air and attack you very quickly. They can move very fast. The priests will launch psychic attacks against you that suck your health out. Use the Shotgun, Stormbow, Vampire Gun or the Razor Wind to kill them.

[edit] Turok Evolution

[edit] Saurian Enemies

Compsognathus: Chicken sized bipedal dinosaurs that move in packs of around five individuals. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: The weakest enemy in the game. Slash them to pieces with the war club, don't waste ammunition.

Raptor: Medium sized and fast dinosaurs. Basic theropod dinosaur design; two legged, long tailed, large head equipped with powerful jaws and sharp teeth. Weapons: Tooth and claw Countermeasures: The war club is the best weapon for hunting raptors, and takes them down with ease. However, in large groups, the shotgun may be more appropriate.

Crocodiles: Crocodiles congregate around the rivers in the jungle, either swimming in the water or sunbathing on the shore. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Surprisingly tough for the weapons you have at the time, the pistol takes many shots but can work. The explosive arrows work best if you have them. Try and dodge as many as you can, avoid them by keeping onto of rocks and such as they can't reach very high. In the water, it is their domain so keep as far away as possible.

Stegosaurus: Large herbivorous dinosaurs recognisable from the row of bony plates on they're back. Common dinosaurs, they are often seen in small groups feeding on vegetation. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Only one aggressive Stegosaur is encountered in the whole game. However, it is very slow and takes a lot of ammo to drop, so definitely avoid confrontation.

Triceratops: An enormous quadrupedal dinosaur with its famous three horned head. Seen in the wild protecting its young in the jungle. When charging, it is so powerful that it knocks down small trees. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: The triceratops is a rare dinosaur only seen once on Turok's journey. The creature is no threat if you stay away from it, which I recommend. If you do get close and it charges, simply run for the water and it will be unable to follow.

Brachiosaurus: Enormous sauropod dinosaurs well known for their long necks. In the wild these beasts are harmless, however, during the assault on Galyanna, the Slegs equip the dinosaurs with armour and rocket launchers, using them as giant assault weapons. Weapons: Rocket launcher. Countermeasures: On the Pterosaur, continuously fly over them hitting them with rockets and they will fall.

Plesiosaurs: Large, long necked aquatic reptiles encountered in a dammed area of river in the Shadowed Lands. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: The plesiosaurs are actually more likely to attack you when out of the water; when swimming they have a tendency to pass right by. Staying away from the waters edge is the easiest countermeasure for these reptiles.

Ankylosaurus: Large heavily armoured dinosaurs used by the Sleg as tanks. On they're backs, the Slegs have attached two mighty rocket pods, each of which can fire four rockets at a time. Weapons: Rocket launcher, tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Extremely tough to take down, the rocket launcher is recommended. Strafe to avoid the rockets and fire. The mini gun can also be effective. If you have neither of these, throw grenades and pump it full of the most powerful lead you have.

Tyrannosaurus: A huge carnivorous dinosaur residing in the highlands. Basically a giant version of the raptor, but much more powerful. Its bite is a two hit kill. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Don't get close, its bite is too dangerous. Grenades are easily the best weapon as four or five direct hits should kill it. If you run out or have none use explosive arrows.

[edit] Animal Enemies

Baboons: White colored primates with long tails and huge pointed fangs. They are common in the jungle and Shadowed Lands, often seen in large groups. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Baboons are more deadly than they may appear. If left alone they usually won't attack, but if one is killed the entire pack will attack mercilessly, jumping and biting at Turok. This can deal a lot of damage. The war club is the most effective, but it is difficult to avoid being damaged. The shotgun is more effective if you are low on health.

Axebeak: An ostrich sized, flightless predatory bird encountered in the shadowed lands feeding on carcasses. Note the huge, sharp beak. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Fairly dim witted animals, if you leave them to eat usually they will leave you alone, but if they attack the shotgun serves as the most appropriate weapon.

Sabre Toothed Tigers: Huge, lion like animals with two giant fangs. These creatures live in the Highlands in caves. Weapons: Tooth and claw. Countermeasures: Tough animals, Turok is forced to move through their den in the Highlands. Use grenades, explosive arrows or the shotgun, anything less will not be powerful enough.

[edit] Sleg

Gunners: These are your basic Slegs. They are skinny like Snipers but are usually red or brownish in color, and pack a long barreled pistol. They are pretty accurate shots too, and will back away as you advance towards them, firing at you as they do. Occasionally they’ll run away and hide behind a rock or tree, to wait and stick their heads out to take shots at you. They aren’t too hard to kill, usually one good head shot is all they’ll need, but if you don’t kill them and you are a fair distance away, they’ll drop their gun and run away to call more troops. If you are close to them, they’ll kneel and put their hands behind their heads in surrender. I like using this opportunity to bludgeon them to death with my war club. Occasionally, you’ll also encounter some red colored ones that you could mistake as Snipers at first glance. The red ones are more accurate from a distance, and will actually throw grenades at you if you move out of their line of fire.

Sleg Troops: These guys are meaner and a larger build to your basic gunner, and take more punishment before diying due to the fact that they wear some armor. You’ll run across two types of these, the ones that wear light, grey-colored armor, and a type that wear heavier, yellow colored armor with some kind of pack mounted on their back. The former are armed with pistols and generally aren’t much of a problem, the latter carry shotguns and you’ll want to dispose of these guys quickly. They are pretty accurate with the shotgun even at a distance, and will roll on the ground to avoid your fire. The best way to take these guys out is to blast them once with the shotgun, wait for them to roll on the ground, and blast them again when they stand up.

Snipers: These guys have gotta be one of the most annoying enemies in the game, as most of the time they’ll be taking pop-shots at you and you won’t be able to see them. They are excellent shots and can hit you from a mile away, due to an infra-red thing they wear on one of their eyes, and can be difficult to kill. The best way to kill these guys is to beat them at their own game…hide behind an object, and poke your head around just far enough so you can see them but they can’t see you. Arm yourself with your Tek-Bow and sling an arrow at their head. Occasionally you’ll meet them up close as well, and most of the time they’ll be lying down on the ground shooting at you, so use whatever weapon you think is appropriate, the shotgun works pretty well. They’re skinny and weak, so they won’t need much before you kill them.

Dinosoids: Dinosoids are tricky customers, and whenever you come across these guys you’ll want to get rid of them rather quickly because they can dish out a lot of damage with their laser gun (It shoots yellow bolts of energy, what else would you call it?). They are a mix of android and dinosaur, meaning they are part metallic as well as wearing their metal armor, and will need some heavy ammunition to bring them down. I’d recommend the Plasma Cannon or minigun for these guys…they are possible to kill with the shotgun but chances are you’ll be hurt pretty bad. Luckily they won’t make much of an attempt to avoid your fire, but you still need to be constantly moving to avoid being hit too much by their lasers. They are especially deadly in groups.

Machine Gunners: Big, beefy and brainless. Machine gunners are some of the bigger types of Sleg you’ll encounter throughout the game. They are black in color, wear some pretty heavy armor, carry a minigun, and know how to fire it. Fortunately for you, they aren’t too good at hitting moving targets, so as long as you are constantly moving (circle strafing is a good Countermeasures) your chances of getting hit a lot are slim. Just avoid their fire and shoot them back. You may be tempted to use some heavy artillery on these guys…it’s not actually necessary. Five or so good close range shots with the shotgun will be all these guys need. The old cliché ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall’ holds quite true to these guys. Don’t, whatever you do, stay stationary when tackling these guys, because they’ll fill you full of minigun ammo in seconds.

Rocketeers: Another large type of Sleg, Rocketeers are the same size as Machine Gunners. Unlike Machine Gunners though, they are a red-orange kind of colour, pack a rocket launcher and are a lot harder to kill. I’d recommend taking out your big guns for these guys. The best way to tackle them is from a distance. You’ll see the rockets coming at you, and you should be able to just step out of the way of it and continue firing at the Sleg until it dies. Explosive arrows aren’t a bad idea with these guys either, because the explosion will knock them backwards, meaning they can’t fire at you. Wait for them to get to their feet, perhaps move a little closer to them, then fire off another one at them. They’ll need six or more direct hits to die from Explosive arrows. Of course, just one Swarm Bore will see the end of them too. If you ever find yourself trapped in a small room or at close range with these guys... well... good luck, because they’ll murder you dead. Take out the best gun you have and pray that you kill them before they kill you.

Shotguneers: This is another variety of this larger and fatter type of Sleg…in fact that seem even bigger than Machine Gunners and Rocketeers. These guys carry a big Shotgun, and seem to make use of the Quad Barrel upgrade because their shots damn hurt! They’ll take a bit of punishment too, I’d recommend the minigun on these thugs, although if you are good at circle strafing at close range the shotgun is an option as well. You can actually take these guys at close range... just make sure you keep moving to avoid being hit by the full force of their shotgun blast.

Arsonists: Arsonists are rather large Slegs, a bit bigger than a Dinosoid, and are dark red in color. Their weapon of choice is... you guessed it, a flame thrower, and they know how to use it. Their flame thrower’s range is impressive, but still limited, so the best way to kill these Slegs is from a distance. Take out your minigun or Plasma Cannon and rip into them. You’ll need to use quite a bit of ammo on them though, they aren’t easy to kill in that respect. Don’t use your flame thrower, because they seem to be immune, or at least don’t take a lot of damage from fire. If you find yourself trapped at close range with these guys, you better start arranging the hearse, because their flame thrower will kill you in seconds.

Mechanics: You’ll only find these guys in one area of the game. They wear white clothing that looks like a laboratory coat and will just stand motionless in front of the machines they are attending until you come into their range of sight. They don’t actually carry a gun; they attack by throwing spanners and wrenches at you, which actually deal out a bit of pain. They’ll take a bit of pain too... for mechanics they are pretty tough and you’ll need more shots than you’ll be expecting to use to kill them. There’s no real countermeasures here though as they’ll make no effort to avoid your fire... just keep moving and avoid the stuff they throw at you, shoot them a few times and Bob’s your uncle.

Purr-Linns: These towering monsters are the biggest Slegs you’ll find in the entire game and coincidentally, dish out the most damage. They are heavily armored and will attack you at close range with their huge claws, while at a distance they’ll attempt to nail you with rockets or lasers. Again, it makes sense to take on these guys from a distance…it’s far easier to avoid laser fire or rockets than it is to avoid their big claws. Keep your distance and plug away at them with the minigun. The rocket launcher also works pretty well here too. The impact of the rocket won’t knock them down though, so be wary of that. Two well placed rockets will be the end of them, otherwise a few seconds of concentrated fire from the minigun will see to them as well. Don’t find yourself trapped at close range or you’ll kick the bucket very quickly.

[edit] Airborne Enemies

Transport Ships: Nothing special here, these are black ships that will occasionally fire at you but most of the time, you’ll be behind them trying to gun them down.

Tanks: These things are more annoying than anything. Take care when taking on these land based attackers that you don’t go and slam yourself into the ground as you try and line up your crosshair onto them. It’s usually best just to fly straight past them.

Turrets: These are guns that are mounted either on the ground or on the walls of cliffs that fire some kind of laser at you. You’ll want to destroy as many of these as possible as you are flying along, because they won’t miss at close range if you fly past them. They’ll also shoot you a few times after you have passed them as well.

Paratroopers: These are just Sleg troops that hang from balloons as you fly through the many tunnels and caves, trying to gun you down, and occasionally you’ll find them outdoors too. They aren’t much to worry about really, either shoot them or shoot the balloons they are attached to, but there’s nothing wrong with just flying past them.

Attack Jets: These are bigger, move faster and are more dangerous than transports. They look pretty much the same as your ally’s planes, except they are black rather than grey. (Hey, how come my allies get planes and I get a stupid bird?) A few homing rockets will see them end of them.

Unknown Threats: There’s always some miscellaneous things firing at you from the ground in flying levels, and I can’t really tell you exactly what they all are. Most of them are probably just Tanks and Turrets, but they’ll be the odd something else in there somewhere so I’m just adding this to cover myself. You’ll also sometimes get some boats firing at you as you fly over water, so they belong in here as well.

[edit] Miscellaneous

Monks: These guys will always attack in groups, and their attack will usually be triggered by something you do, like picking up a key or flicking a switch. They’ll teleport around the room and try to hit you with their bladed staffs, or they’ll throw some object at you that I’m yet to identify. Either way, both of these attacks hurt, so you’ll want to avoid being hit a lot by monks. The best countermeasures is to pack your shotgun and make sure you are constantly moving, back- pedaling around in a circle is usually good as they have less chance of getting behind you. When they appear in front of you, blast them.

Airships: Occasionally when you are in FPS mode you’ll encounter airships... which are modified transports with some big guns on them. You don’t want to hang around too often when one or a few of these pop up, as you can be dead very quickly from their fire. Early in the game, explosive arrows will do the trick. Later in the game, your minigun is your best option, followed by your Rocket Launcher. You’ll be wasting a lot of ammo trying to gun down airships, but you don’t have a choice really, as you usually can’t outrun them. Sometimes you might be lucky and they’ll fly away before they see you and start shooting at you, but not often.

Stone Statues: In one chapter in the game, you’ll come across some ancient ruins with stone statues around everywhere. Once you pick up a certain item, you’ll trigger the awakening of the statues and they’ll start coming after you (the noise they make as they walk is actually quite creepy if you don’t know what it is, like the first time I heard it). Even though there are lots of them, they aren’t much of a problem, just keep your distance and give them a few good blasts with your shotgun and they’ll be blown to pieces. Just make sure you don’t get too close to them or you’ll be skewered like a prawn at Easter time.
