Slade is one of Joseph Turok's teammates from Whiskey Company, which was shot down onto a nearby planet. He is the first non-enemy character in the game that you meet. He has fallen into a cave labyrinth, with Turok, after trying to escape from the ship. He is the first person to use the shotgun, and is usually around to help Turok if he is in trouble. Slade and Turok are both friends with Reese who seems to be of a higher rank than the other two due to his skills and wielding of the sniper rifle. He has a strong hatred for Turok because his brother died in the battle Turok fled from and believes Turok is responsible. But after his life is saved by Turok, he begins to respect him, even to the point where when Logan points a gun at him he quickly moves it out of the way saying "Are you having a mental lapse, Logan?" He juxtaposes the selfish, whiny coward from horror movies who usually dies first, with the ballsy, hard nosed classic actions hero, making him a unexpectedly believable and complex character in the game.
He, along with Turok and Shepherd are the only ones from Whiskey Company who survived as they left the planet.

[edit] Weapon Compatibility
Slade doesn't seem to use all of the weapons on the battlefield, but does however use these: Knife, when on the floor tackling a dinosaur, Sub-Machine Gun, which he starts off with, a Shotgun, which he picks up before the first raptor encounter, and a flamethrower which he is given later in the game.
