Overview

"Highly-evolved descendants of the Velociraptor, these ferocious creatures are the mainstay of the Dinosoid army. Fast, sleek, and extremely violent, they attack with a ferocity that is truly terrifying."
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Official Strategy Guide[1]

Raptoids are a reptilian species and members of the Dinosoid lineage. They are descendants of the mighty Velociraptor, having evolved over the course of millions of years.

These bipeds are the grunts of the Dinosoid vanguard and serve as both light infantry and support for their brethren the Endtrails.

Appearance[]

Raptoids are bipedal, lizard-like creatures. Their physique is lightly built and shows little muscle compared to their heavily-built brothers, the Endtrails. They are covered in gold scales, though larger black scales can be seen along parts of their extremities.

They have large arms with three claws and have the same splayed, three-toed feet that most carnivores possess. On their backs are a ridge of spines that extend from the base of the skull to the base of the tail, and they appear to be made of some sort of cartilage. They have grayish reptilian eyes and wield a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. A defining feature of the Raptoid is the shape of their head, which is similar in appearance to that of their ancestor, the Velociraptor.

Although they may appear to be weak compared to other Dinosoids, Raptoids make up for it in agility and speed, being able to dodge incoming fire with ease using a combination of jumps and evasive rolls.

Gameplay[]

Raptoids are quite easy to take care of. They can only attack if the player is too close to them, giving the player some room to work with. On early levels like "The Port of Adia" and "Slaughter by the River of Souls," the best weapon to dispatch these enemies would be the Pistol as it can momentarily stun them, giving the player a chance to fire more follow-up shots. The Shotgun can also be used, but it is recommended for larger enemies like the Endtrails and Raptors.

Another trick to save ammo would be to use the Talon/War Blade. A experienced player can and will be able to take down a Raptoid while avoiding their claws.

Players should be wary, though, as Raptoids will sometimes perform a combination of slashes and kicks when they are too close. These blows can knock the player off balance and, if too close to a pit, cause the player to fall to their death.
