Overview

"Don't let the name fool you -- this is one of the most powerful weapons you will find. It burns ammo though, so you'll need to reload by the box full."
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter manual[1]

The Minigun is a multi-barreled heavy weapon that appears in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok: Rage Wars, respectively. It is a generic Minigun that is considered one of the more powerful "bullet firing" weapons in Dinosaur Hunter.

Appearance[]

The Minigun's appearance in Dinosaur Hunter is a typical Minigun that appears to be made entirely of metal. It features a handle grip with a button/trigger that starts to spin the gun's barrels, as well as a handle on the top of the gun to allow better grip.

In Turok: Rage Wars, the Minigun has gone from a more generic minigun design to a more assault rifle design, with a pistol grip and a bullpup style magazine placement. Another major difference is that it is fairly larger than it was before.

Gameplay[]

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter[]

In Turok: Dinosaur Hunter the Minigun is a heavy machine gun that fires bullets at high speeds and can do constant damage to whatever it hits. It is considered one of the most powerful firearms that shoots bullets, along with being able to carry the largest amount of ammo of all of the weapons in the game.

It requires a quick spin to begin firing, but this only takes a second. The downside is that the weapon consumes ammo fast, forcing the player to conserve ammo for groups of enemies or mid- and end-game enemies. The Minigun has a maximum ammo capacity of 500 rounds, yet with each bullet the gun fires, the ammo will deplete by four, so the actual amount of shots fired with the Minigun would be quartered.

Ammo for the weapon is quite common in later levels, mostly from "The Catacombs" and beyond. Since the player is most likely to use this weapon in these levels, each ammo pickup for the Minigun fully replenishes its stock.

Turok: Rage Wars[]

The weapon returns with its primary fire remaining the same as it was in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, albeit it fires slightly slower than before. The Minigun now has a secondary function; this function activates an energy shield that protects the player but consumes energy ammo extremely fast.

To unlock the minigun in the single-player campaign, the player must beat "Defcon 5" with the Blind One Guardian. The secondary mode is unlocked once the player beats "Crossroads" with the Fireborn.
