For the boss in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion for the Game Boy Color, see Giant Mantis.
Overview

The Mantis is a large insect featured in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok: Battle of the Bionosaurs. This enemy serves as the boss for Level 5, "The Catacombs."

Once the player approaches the key needed for the final level, it will descend into the floor and the mantis statue in front of it will break to reveal the actual Mantis.

Appearance[]

This boss appears as a massive oversized insect. It features six large, long legs, two of which contain massive claws, while the others are used for standing upwards. This insect's eyes are massive and are a deep, blazing red.

This creature hovers over Tal'Set by a small margin, and it is strikingly accurate to an actual mantis.

Gameplay[]

Upon beginning the fight, the Mantis will charge at the player either slashing them with its front legs or spraying them with acid. The best way to avoid these attacks is to stay away in order to effectively fight it. When it glows for the first time, it will begin to retreat and then knock down some walls, enlarging the arena.

For the first stage, use the Particle Accelerator at full charge since the Mantis will try to engage the player in close quarters. Once the Mantis has had enough, it will glow and then destroy several walls. Keep using the Particle Accelerator until the Mantis is finally defeated. Energy cells will spawn on the sides of the arena, giving the player access to unlimited ammo.

The Grenade Launcher also works well as an alternative.
