Overview

"Slow but unstoppable. Send a rolling ball of nuclear mayhem their way, but don't get any closer than you need to! It only holds 2 shots, so you'll need to track down more fusion charges as you go."
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter manual[1]

The Fusion Cannon is a weapon that appears in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. It is a large futuristic cannon that fires a red ball of nuclear energy, which causes a devastating explosion.

Appearance[]

The Fusion Cannon appears to be a large cannon. It generates red electric bolts through the exterior of the weapon when idle. It is the second most powerful weapon in the game, outclassed only by the Chronoscepter (which is limited to three shots without cheats).

Gameplay[]

The Fusion Cannon is one of the most powerful weapons in the game behind the Chronoscepter. The weapon can prove to be of use against the tougher enemies and can take down large groups of enemies with ease, although it is slow to use, as it takes about two seconds to warm up and fire. The energy ball travels at a slow pace, taking around a total of four seconds which can prove to be critical if the player is in a hurry.

The fusion ball will only travel a short distance before detonating, so the player must get to a safe distance quickly. Otherwise, if the player is caught in the blast radius, results are fatal. This weapon is greatly recommended against Thunder, as one blast can take up to one third of its life bar.

Lastly, the Fusion Cannon uses its own ammo pool and holds up to two charges or three if the player has the Backpack power up. The weapon's scarce ammo means most players save it for the battle with Thunder and have little use for it elsewhere.

Ammo Pickups[]

  • Weapon: Restores 2 charges.
  • Fusion Cell: Restores 1 charge.

Trivia[]

  • The Fusion Cannon can be compared to the BFG 9000 from id Software's Doom franchise. Both weapons are similar both in terms of gameplay and appearance.
    • This could be a homage to the BFG 9000, as the Turok series takes the "run n' gun" elements of Doom as an inspiration for its gameplay.
  • This weapon sports the smallest ammo capacity in the game, holding only two shots normally and only three with the backpack.
  • If the player attempts to use the Fusion Cannon on the Campaigner, he will force the player to switch to the Knife and laugh at them mockingly.
    • In the Remaster, he doesn't do this and instead the Fusion Cannon will either miss the Campaigner completely or do almost no damage.
