"Hand-held Hell is here in the form of a gritty gas burner that will barbecue foe and foliage. Did someone say "extra crispy"?"
Turok: Evolution manual[1]

The Flamethrower (called Flame Thrower in Seeds of Evil) is a weapon that first appears in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. As its name indicates, it uses fire as a way to dispose of enemies.

AppearanceEdit

Turok 2: Seeds of EvilEdit

The Flamethrower first appears as a high-tech, steel weapon. Its gas tanks hook up to a second barrel, where a third barrel lies on top with an active flame. When fired, it releases a stream of fire that can reach enemies at great distances.

Turok: EvolutionEdit

The weapon returns after being absent in Turok: Rage Wars and Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, this time taking on a more realistic appearance. It now has a much more worn look and sports a military green color scheme.

GameplayEdit

Turok 2: Seeds of EvilEdit

The Flamethrower can prove to be quite the useful tool for quickly dispatching enemies, as a few seconds of engulfing an enemy in flames can instantly kill them. It is most effective in the Lair of the Blind Ones, as this level contains copious amounts of Cave Spiders that can drain health quickly.

The weapon fires quickly, having no delay or requiring a charge to fire. As a takeaway, the weapon drains ammo quite fast, subtracting two units from the player's ammo stock every second.

This weapon is great against groups of spider hatchlings that nip that the player's ankles, and it is highly recommended when the player encounters the Giant Spiders throughout the level, as it can do more damage than most weapons against these arachnids.

Turok: EvolutionEdit

The weapon returns yet again in Evolution, and it is even more useful than before. Its range has been slightly reduced, but it can now burn through most enemies with ease.

As its primary firing mode, it shoots out a stream of continuous fire, which can set the environment ablaze for further damage. The secondary firing mode allows the Flamethrower to shoot out three sticky napalm rounds, which will instantly kill any Sleg in a single round while damaging any other enemies nearby, making it perfect for clearing rooms with ease.

Ammo PickupsEdit

Turok 2: Seeds of EvilEdit

  • Weapon: Restocks 25 fuel units.
  • Flame Thrower Tank: Restocks 50 fuel units

Turok: EvolutionEdit

  • Weapon: Restocks 25 fuel units.
  • Flamethrower Tank: Restocks 60 fuel units.

TriviaEdit

  • This weapon is known as the first flamethrower in a game to feature polygonal fire, a graphical achievement at the time of the game's release.[2]
  • Due to the Flamethrower's two-barrel mechanism, and how the weapon's flames can reach enemies from great distances, it can be safe to assume that the weapon runs off liquid fuel rather than a gas.
