Overview

The Razor Wind is a weapon that first appears in Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. It is a throwing chakram that has a function similar to that of a boomerang.

Appearance[]

In Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, the Razor Wind appears as a steel chakram. It has several blades that surround its central grip. These blades constantly rotate when it is wielded. Once thrown, this weapon spins towards its target and then returns to its owner. If the hit is successful, the Razor Wind will return with blood stains.

The weapon returns in Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion and is available to both Danielle and Joseph Fireseed. The Razor Wind is noticeably smaller in size and now only sports three blades. Its function remains unchanged, and it retains its circular shape.

Gameplay[]

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil[]

The Razor Wind can prove to be of great use. It can be thrown great distances and can take down most enemies with one hit, making it more effective than the War Blade against larger enemies. It can also pierce through targets, making this weapon kill multiple enemies in one throw. Once thrown, the Razor Wind will fly in a straight path and bounce off any walls it hits or enemies it slices. After about three or more seconds, depending on what is in front of the weapon's flight path, the weapon will return to the player.

The player should use this weapon very carefully, as missing an enemy or using the weapon with enemies spread apart would leave them open and vulnerable for attack. A bad throw can also sometimes get the weapon stuck behind a wall. This causes a delay and will put the player in danger of an attack while they are waiting for the weapon to return. Note that the player cannot switch weapons at this time either.

This weapon is recommended if the player wishes to conserve ammo or if the player has the element of surprise.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion[]

The weapon returns in this Turok sequel, this time obtained much earlier in the game than before. Its functionality remains the same with the major difference being that it now returns to the player much more quickly. As a takeaway, its flying distance has been slightly decreased from its previous form.

Overall, this weapon can still prove to be effective against Forsaken Warriors, Oblivion Spawn Grunts, Voodoo Priests, and other enemies.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only ranged weapon in the game that does not consume ammo. Instead, if used, the player is left vulnerable for a couple of seconds until the weapon is retrieved.
  • When the Razor Wind is thrown at a Mantid, it still returns with red blood stains despite the fact that Mantids bleed green blood. This type of error was fixed in Shadow of Oblivion.
  • There is a bug where the Razor Wind will not hit the enemy, even if they are technically hit. This bug is noticeable against the Dinosoid enemies, where the game mistakenly acts as if the Dinosoid dodged the attack, hence there being no blood on the Razor Wind disc.
  • While it did not appear in Turok: Rage Wars, a similar tri-bladed weapon, the Boomerang, was available for use.
  • In an earlier version of Shadow of Oblivion, this weapon was called the Death Wing.
